This causes some problems. If you change your domain name, then are you back at the bottom of the barrel? Well, maybe not. If the rest of the criteria stays the same and your content maintains consistency, as does your traffic and incoming links, then this might just be a temporary drop and the rise will happen again soon.

The way a search engine ranked websites was somewhat of a mystery for the longest time. How your website ranked seemed to be completely random, or based on popularity.

Then there was Google

In 2005, the Google corporation made public their “secret formula” for ranking search engines in the way of a US Patent. This meant that no other company could use their formula without Google’s express permission – A bold, yet extremely smart move, as this would help solidify the Google Group as a key player, and the leading search engine company.

And now, I break down for you the affectionately named “Google Patent”

Links

Links have always played an important role in determining citation value. Incoming links help judge the value of a document. The more citations, or links, the more important and valuable it must be. But Google adds some criteria to those citations.

In the past, the number of incoming links scored high, but a judgment on quality of the incoming link source was added to the mix. If the linking page and site had a high page rank value itself, then clearly, it knew a good thing when it linked to it. Still, this link quality aspect became harder to define as so many sites were joining the web and the quality became diluted.

Historical factors now play an important roll in addition to the number and quality of the incoming links. It seems Google’s method includes counting the moment a new site is discovered and applying an “aging process” to the site. Google monitors the link as it changes over time, the speed at which the site adds incoming links, and the life span of the link. It isn’t about having thousands of sites that link to yours, but about building those thousands of links over time.

The “aging process” that monitors the history of the links and site helps to combat spam sites. Spam sites tend to come and go very quickly, building links fast through their spamming techniques, then closing down and moving on. Thus, the older the site and the links coming into it, the more “points” the site may get. The shorter the life of the site domain, no matter how many millions of links are coming in, the less Google is interested.

Google monitors the historical value and the slow building of value of incoming links, and they also monitor the changes in the link anchor text over time and throughout the site.

Consistent link anchor text scores low. This is considered “Anchor Spam”. What this means is that if you use the same text in a link, such as <a href=”link.php”>perfume sales</a> consistently through your site, then it won’t score very high. If you vary the link anchor text, especially over time not just within the same page, your odds will increase as Google monitors the changes in links over time. Generally, it is recommended to change the keywords in your anchor text around the top 5-10 keywords, to maintain consistency with keyword rankings and link rankings.

So the perfume sales might include link text such as:

cologne market

perfume market

cologne sales

fragrance sales

sales of fragrance

This changes the whole landscape. The idea of link exchanges and link spam as a method to attract Google’s search engine bots just doesn’t work. Age before linkage.

Google also states very clearly that exchanging and buying links won’t work. They know the tricks and techniques. Also, getting links from documents that have no content, just links, also won’t work. Links without content won’t score high.

Now, does this mean that if you link to a page and they link back to you, your scores will go down and it might be considered link spam? No. The other criteria goes into effect to help offset this normal linking techniques.

Domain Age

One of the other criteria is the age of the domain. Again, driven by spam sites which pop up and die off quickly, the age of the domain is usually a clue they tend to be in for the long haul.

This causes some problems. If you change your domain name, then are you back at the bottom of the barrel? Well, maybe not. If the rest of the criteria stays the same and your content maintains consistency, as does your traffic and incoming links, then this might just be a temporary drop and the rise will happen again soon.

Many hosts offer special rates for long term hosting and domain registration. Consider registering your domain for at least two years, five is better. This means you need to make sure that the domain name you choose is one you can live with for two to five years. You can change hosts, but the domain registration needs to stay the same, and stay in your name over the long haul to score points with Google.

Click Through Rates

The click through rate (CTR) of your site may play an important roll in adding up good points on your Google Search Engine score card. The CTR is the rate that people click “through” to your site. Referrer statistics are the numbers and methods visitors use to visit your site. This information tells the site administrator, and Google, from where did you arrive from to land on this site. Did you click through from a search engine (which one), directly, from another site (which site), or, as revealed in the patent, from the cache, temporary files, bookmarks, or favorites of your Internet browser.

The click through rate is also based on the CTR of the advertising on your site. The more ads which are clicked, the higher your score.

The CTR is also monitored for fresh or stale content – in other words, are they visiting new content on your site or old posts or articles? Trends and seasons are also taken into account as certain subject matter gains precedence with the time of the year and the current fad.

Trends, Fads, and Seasons

Built into the Google page ranking technique is the ability to track current and historical trends, fads and seasons. If your site deals with beach wear, the odds are that it will have more traffic during the beach wear season of summer than it will into the fall and winter. This seasonal traffic is taken into account and you may not lose rank when the traffic dies down seasonally.

It also tracks whatever is hot in trends and fads. Right now, everything to do with the presidential election is hot, hot, hot, but a couple years ago, everything and anything to do with protecting you and your home from biological terrorism was top of the list. Paris Hilton was top of the charts for a long time, doing battle with Britney Spears, but now, both of them are old news.

This is an interesting aspect of page ranking. If your site continues to push keywords long past the fad’s life span, then this could be seen as keyword spamming. Yet, using trends and fads keywords as they come and go could attract attention. Luckily, the rest of the criteria in the page ranking evaluation can help to clear out abusers of keywords related to the current fad or current event.

Posting Frequency

How often you update your pages and add content is monitored over time. It isn’t just how much but when. If you update or add hundreds of articles within a very short time, this is suspicious, but if you rarely update your site or add content over time, then your ranking will probably drop. Finding a happy medium is still a hit and miss angle, but the information seems to point to consistency not just random spurts of energy.

If you consistently add content once a week, and it stays steady, then it is seen as stable. If you add content consistently every day, and then it drops to nothing, then this change indicates an instability. If you do hit and miss content updating and additions over time, and then suddenly post a ton of activity, this can also be seen as instability and suspicious. Steady and consistent, no matter how frequently, adds weight to the score.

Many researchers say that frequent new or updated content carries more weight than infrequent changes to the site. I could find nothing in the patent that lent proof to that theory, but showing consistent activity does work.

A “stale” page is one that is old and rarely attracts interest. A “fresh” page is one that is new, and will be watched to see what kind of interest it may attract. By updating a stale page on your site, you may attract new interest by rewriting or structuring the information and keywords to attract more attention, breathing life back into the page. Google monitors this “refreshing” of pages to show activity and an increase in interest, scoring high.

Not all “old” pages on your site need updating. If it is still attracting decent traffic, then leave it alone. It is working for you.

The patent also reveals that stable pages that are working which suddenly attract a “spike” in the number of incoming links or click throughs may be an indication of a change of site ownership or spamming. Google evaluates not only the content but the historical changes in the content of the page and the site and if the changes are dramatic and sudden, then the site will rank lower. Stability over time scores higher.

Keywords Still Play a Roll

Keywords and keyword density still play an important roll in evaluating the content and content history. Putting keywords in titles, links, headings, tags, and throughout the page is still critical to the success of your site’s page ranking and keyword ranking results.

Changes to keywords, by arrangement, closeness, and inside of links, titles and headings are also monitored, much like link anchor text. Consider reviewing and updating your keywords and checking their density and use throughout your site on a regular basis, if search engine page ranking is important to you.

In upcoming posts, we’ll discuss how to maximize your keyword density in your blog posts.

Rank by Traffic, User Behavior, and You

Like other comparative search engines, Google’s patent also tells of how page rankings are compared across the board and monitored over time. The traffic is recorded and monitored. How much traffic each page gets as well as the overall site.

User behavior is checked. Google keeps track of how long visitors stay on your site and from what pages they exit your site. You also get points for bookmarking or adding to favorites.

Keyword search results are constantly monitored. What keywords brought the visitor to your site and what keywords they used to search once on your site.

But “you” also play a roll in determining the page ranking with Google. The domain registration information is checked and compared to the information on the site to make sure the two match. The address of the domain owner may help localize search results to that specific geographic area.

How you have your site hosted also is among the other administrative items checked off. Shared IP host addresses run a risk since they are shared. If someone else is using that server for spamming or other evils, you could also be punished. Dedicated hosting is very expensive, so make sure you choose a reputable host who is publicly and actively stopping spamming sites if you choose shared hosting.

The validity of the site’s code and structure plays a small part, but is still part of the criteria. Make sure your site’s code is validated, checked for errors, and friendly to search engines. Any errors in your page structure or code can easily thwart a search engine’s process through your site. Table designed sites rank low while CSS based designs are much more search engine friendly.

Spelling is still important. Not that Google’s patented page ranking process includes a spell checker – words that are not recognized get dumped. If misspelled keywords are among your missed spellings, then your site will be hurt in the rankings.

There you have it. Google’s Website Ranking Formula broken down into pieces. Use these guidelines, and your pages should start to rank higher on this leading search engine.

One of the hardest things about maintaining a Squidoo lens is keeping it updated with fresh content. When you have a Lens, your search engine rankings can increase dramatically, but only if you can keep your content updated and fresh. Sometimes it can be difficult to keep that content fresh because of writers block, or other reasons.

One way to overcome this problem is to add a RSS module from your Blog (if you have one) or any other suitable RSS feed to your lens.

This way you will get fresh content automatically without you doing anything, as soon as you update your Blog, because it will update your lens at the same time.

This is not hard to do, in fact it can be done in 4 easy steps, and it will only take you a matter of minutes to do.

Step 1 – Get the RSS Feed URL

First you need to get the RSS feed URL, either from your Blog or whichever RSS feed that you want to display.

Locate the RSS Feed icon, when you press that it will take you to the RSS feed page and give you the correct URL which you will need to add to the lens

Step 2 – Log on to Squidoo

Log on to your Squidoo account and go to your dashboard, while you are on your dashboard have a look at moving some of the modules around, especially if a new module looks more interesting. Remember the 10-second rule – you need to hold a visitor’s attention for those crucial 10 seconds.

Step 3 – Add RSS Module

Go to the section with “re-order modules” and add the RSS module to your lens, if the RSS module is not displayed in any of the categories, you can just enter in the words and do a search, you will then be able to see it.

Once this has been ordered you can just drag and drop the module into the correct space on your Lens

Step 4 – Name your RSS Module

The Module will now be ready to be edited with your own information. Give your RSS a module a title, like your Blogs name etc

Give your module a subtitle (optional) you can add anything here, have a look what it looks like, you can always go back and edit it again.

Give your module a description (optional) again you can be creative, if you don’t like what you have entered, just delete it later on.

Now it is time to enter the RSS feed URL that you got in step 1.

There are a few other options that you can add, play around and see what suits you.

Conclusion

Now that only will you be able to make your lens more interesting, you will also be updating it automatically with fresh content from your Blog.

Many people have heard of the phrase Web 2.0, and what it means. For those who haven’t, Web 2.0 is, in its simplst form marketing yourself through different social networking medium such as MySpace, FaceBook, YouTube, etc.

Many “experts” in the IT field would disagree that this is an effective method of Marketing. In an article published on ZDNet, it was cited that only 1 out of 12 business CIOs (Chief Information Officer) actually agree that Web 2.0 practices even work The rest prefer the old “belly-to-belly method”

“Mike Roberts, IT director at Harley Street practice the London Clinic, added: “I prefer to network face-to-face. I think the electronic networking is flawed as it is vital to interact in person to get a relationship to be of any value.”

So do we agree? Is web 2.0 Marketing a waste of time? Can we get more value from Face-to-Face marketing than we can by promoting ourselves and branding ourselves on the Internet?

When you think about it, Face-To-Face marketing is meeting someone, maybe having a short conversation and then getting down to the nitty gritty of why you contacted that person in the first place. Now at first, you might develop a repor with your prospective client, but then when you just jump into the pitch, you tend to lose your client because to them, you are just another “salesman looking to make a buck.”

Now, lets take the Web 2.0 approach. You have a website, You have a MySpace, You have a YouTube and a Blog, and all that good stuff. You begin to fill those pages with content. Not selling your product, but marketing yourself. Eventually, when people start to realize that you aren’t necessarily trying to sell them anything, they subscribe, and come back to your videos, or blog, or whatever it is you have. Eventually, they will actually come to you to learn about your product, or service, or whatever else it is you provide. Why? Because you have branded yourself as an expert in your chosen category, and you’ve done it without being pushy, without overselling, without selling at all, really. All you’ve really done is brought visitors to your site.

So which one would you rather be known as? A pushy salesman, or an expert in your field who knows what you are talking about and instead of coming to prospective clients, they actually come to you? Wouldn’t it be nice to see your inbox flooded with “Please Tell me More” messages instead of “Please Take Me Off Your List?”

Its possible.. it really is. A NFL Franchise is about to make the record books as the first NFL Team to win the Superbowl, and thus have the perfect season. Undefeated from day one. So how did they do it? Well, lets take a look at some of their strengths

1. Tom Brady – What can I say, this guy is a machine. 398/578 amasing over 4 thousand yards and 50 touchdowns. But this week, the Boston Globe published a photo of Brady wearing a walking cast. His start chances? As of the moment I am writing this, ESPN.com has him listed as probable. What’s the condition? YAHOO! Sports reports a High Ankle Sprain. Will it keep the MVP from starting? I highly doubt it. In fact, this morning, there were reports he had the boot off already and was walking around.

2. Randy Moss – He’s got 2000 yards over 50 receptions, and 23 trips into the endzone. While Moss has been the “Bad Boy” off the field, on the field he remains as disciplined as ever. Moss’ latest accusation is another assault claim, but Moss claims her threats to go public were based on a 500,000 blackmail. The boston hearald reports that his accuser is in fact in financial trouble, verifying Moss’ claims.

3. Junior Seau- What can I say, the man has been playing for almost 20 years, but still tackles like he was fresh out of the draft. 73 Tackles, 3 sacks over the season don’t amount to much, but expect big things from the veteran

4. Stephen Gostowski – 21/24 in FG attempts and a perfect 7 4 PAT kicks. His longestis 43 yards, but I think he can pull it father if he needs to. Watch for him to be key early in the game, and then again as the clock winds down

These are just some of the key factors in the upcoming Superbowl that will allow the New England Patriots to do something no other NFL Franchise has done – Go Completely undefeated from Week1 to Superbowl in a single season. Me personally, I hope they do it, but if they do, then Brady will have one more ring than Joe Montana, and being a 49er fan, this is hard for me to swallow.

Ranking high in search engines is every webmaster’s dream. If your website was to be ranked in the top 3 positions for a given keyword, your website will be flooded with highly targeted traffic for free.

In the world of search engine rankings, your ultimate goal is to land the first spot in search results using a targeted keyword. One way to do that is on-page optimization. Lets see how you can do this.

On-page optimization refers to the improvement of both content and structure of the website so you can have better a chance of improving your page rank. There are numerous techniques available, but it does not mean that everything is actually applicable.

There are unethical practices known as Black Hat strategies which are frowned upon. Using those techniques will hurt your website on the long run. Thus, if you do not want to hurt your rank and even your reputation, here are some excellent techniques in on-page optimization which I highly suggest you follow.

1. Keep relevancy in your content. One of the major reasons why other websites would want to link to your website which in turn brings you a massive amount of traffic is because of your content. Another way to do this is to use your articles, and use a number of high-ranking keywords. Their purpose is to allow your article to show up once Internet users utilize your keywords in searching for information. The idea is to get your articles to appear on the first page of search results for a set of keywords that are relevant to your website.

When writing articles and playing with keywords, keep in mind that they should be relevant to the articles that you are writing about. As much as possible, your content should appear natural. Place your keywords at the right places. Most of all, do not over-stuff them. Not only does it make your copies sound incomprehensible, but you will likely get punished by search engines because of such technique. Remember to use keywords sparingly.

2. Validate your HTML. There are a number of disadvantages when you do not double-check your HTML code. One of these is you will never rank well in search engine results. What’s more, your website appears disoriented in some of the Internet browsers. There are many tools on the internet that will check your website for HTML errors. AnyBrowser is one of them.

To validate your HTML, you can also utilize a W3C HTML validator. All you need to do is to place your URL in it and allow the application to analyze your HTML codes and your HTML structure. In the end, it can give you a list of errors that you may have done in your webpages. You can then come up with the best solution to your problems.

3. Use bold text in your heading tags. One of the most effective ways to rank well with a particular keyword is to place it in your heading.

If your website is about Cats then place the word “Cat” in the heading of your website before your first paragraph. This is because search engine spiders “read” your content from top to bottom. And thus if you use bold text at the top of your web page you will have a better chance of getting a higher rank. However, to further increase your chances, set the keyword in bold. Spiders will view your keyword as highly relevant to the theme of your website which in turn will help you rank better.

There you have it. Those 3 strategies will help you optimize your website

Many people are still saddled with outdated MLM training and ideas of how network marketing companies were run many years ago.

The training in MLM that we have today had already grown pass those times.

What is vitally important in choosing a sponsor or coach? The secret is choosing a team with an experienced trainer who will teach and guide you to success.

There are other factors involved such as the financial backing of the company, timing, the compensation plan and marketing a product with mass appeal. However if you are not properly trained during those early months it is much more difficult to succeed.

A lot of marketers don’t consider the importance of this. Every professional businessperson or athlete has a coach to train them. Why should network marketing be any different?

If you are considering joining a network marketing company it is definitely worth your while to determine what kind of a team you would be working with. Here are a few suggestions in what to look for in a sponsor or coach.

He or she should have a proven track record of success in network marketing. It’s well known that in order to be successful, we should learn and do as successful people have done. It’s not vital that your sponsor is already successful, as long as they have an upline who is. A true leader will prove his or her worth in the results that they produce.

Find someone who is experienced and successful at marketing. Network marketing is just that: marketing through networking. If you are going to be spending money on advertising you want to be using your money on what is most effective. In other words, getting the maximum returns for your money.

You should be trained on how to use network marketing tools for the industry, as well as any tools that may be specific for your own opportunity. Regular team teleconferences and a training web site will assist you as well. The training you receive should be something you can duplicate and pass on to people that you sponsor in your organization.

A good coach will be someone who continuously studies the network marketing industry. This can include subscribing to magazines about MLM, attend seminars to stay up to date with the latest news and keep his or her MLM training pulse on the industry.

Successful people are committed to personal development, and an excellent coach would expect others on their team to be the same. It’s essential that a person has the right mindset for success. Making a commitment to read and/or listen to something of value on a daily basis makes a big difference to one’s personal growth and their success in business.

The right company may be the vehicle to your success but finding an effective MLM training coach will be like the gas in the tank, so choose the team you are going to be working with wisely.

In the world of Internet Business, and business in general, there are a few "buzzwords" that flow around. Residual Income, Passive Income, and Financial Freedom.

Residual Income means just that- it resides

In the world of Internet Business, and business in general, there are a few “buzzwords” that flow around. Residual Income, Passive Income, and Financial Freedom.Residual Income means just that- it resides in your business and continue to generate an income month after month. This is probably the best type of income from a busines.

Passive Income means that you get a little extra money with little or no work.

Some people will use the term Financial Freedom synonymously with Passive Income This could not be further from the truth. Financial Freedom is simply that – the freedom from money. From worrying about money, from working to make money, etc. When you are Financially Free, money is no object. It is simply an abundant posesion.

Multi Level Marketing is one way that you can generate Passive Income. For many people Multi Level Marketing may not necesarily work for some people, since it requires decent communication and presentation skills. Multi Level Marketing does not work without direct interaction to other people. So if you are a hermit who lives in your bedroom and doesn’t get out and address the masses, Multi Level Marketing, or MLM may not be the course for you. Don’t fret though, there is an alternative!!

Network Marketing is one of the ways you can generate that Passive Income on your way to Financial Freedom without necessarily having to leave the safety of your home. However, there are some aspects of MLM that are almost crucial to Network Marketing.

However, some requirements those needed in Multi Level Marketing are needed here too. You have to be somewhat thick skinned. Be prepard for alot of rejection. Don’t think you are going to make money overnight. You are in for the long haul. So don’t be fooled by promises of “Rich Overnight”

Also, as with MLM programs, alot of network marketing programs require a huge investment on your part. Not just financially, but time and work wise. But if you can get the training you need to succeed, and get those websites top on the search engines, thereby driving traffic to your site, it will pay off in the end.

An alarming fact about Internet Marketing: There is a 90%+ failure rate. Why? Because they don’t have the support and training they need to succeed. Most will get a couple websites to visit, maybe a capture page (the taboo word is squeeze page) and sent on their way. They know nothing about SEO, how to leverage themselves on the search engines, and as a result, their website is burried on page 50 of a google search. And I don’t know about you, but I won’t dig that deep into an internet search when I’m looking for something.

You have to be focused as an Internet Marketer. You need to set goals for yourself and work to accomplish those goals. Now I’m not saying you have to spend 21 hours a day in front of the computer pressing to get those signups, but set realistic goals for yourself. For example, a list of goals for a one month period could be like this:

Week 1 – Have a fully working website

Week 2 – Begin Marketing on Blogs and other websites

Week 3 – Contact at least 3 prospects

Week 4 – Sign up at least one of those prospects

Now of course, you could exceed these goals, and if you do, congradulations! You are on your way to furthering your career as a network marketer. If you don’t make it, don’t sweat it. Examine your goals, and find out where you need to improve, and then set those goals as a priority for the next month. Eventually you will find yourself reaching every goal you set for yourself. But the key is training. If you don’t know how to succeed, you probably won’t succeed. Do the homework to find a program that offers you training, support, and the tools you need to make your business a success, and make the turn towards everyones goal for life, Financial Freedom

Having a home based business is a great thing. It can afford you time, luxury, happiness, all the things we hear advertised. But one of the things that can quickly bring a home-based business down is improperly managed financial matters. There are some things that should carefully be taken into consideration

Maintain a seperate bank account for personal and business finances. Often many people will incorporate the two, and when it comes time to file taxes, and extra week can be spent trying to differentiate between home and business related expenses. A seperate bank account will help you keep those transactions seperate.

Keep a good record of expenses for your home based businesses. Alot of people will use the “Shoebox” Method and throw everything into a box, but this becomes more of a headache come tax time. Keep recipts together by month, or by expense even, if you spend 40 dollars a month on printer ink, and another 60 a month on paper, keep those recipts together in an envelope, or file folder labled “Office Supplies” and then every time you buy something for the office, throw that receipt in there, even if its just a one time purchase (a new Fax Machine, for example) Come tax time, your CPA will be able to use those receipt as tax deduction

The biggest thing about running a business is your taxes, and since we are on that subject, don’t forget to put asside enough money each month to cover quarterly taxes, especially if its just you on your payroll. Since you have no employees to deduct payroll taxes from, you need to remember to do this on your own, and be responsible enough to stick to it.

If you own a home business you should take pride in staying organized. The more organized your money is the better off you will be. If you begin to make mistakes as far as your finances are concerned, it could lead to even more problems in the future. From day one, make sure that this is something you do with 100 percent accuracy and efficiency.

A lot of hype is going around several of the forums that I visit regarding uVme and exactly what it’s all about. Well let me tell you that uVme is big. Bigger than any other site of its kind out there.

I signed up with uVme a couple of weeks ago when I was first introduced to the opportunity. And because it was still in pre-launch and free, I jumped on board. After writing a simple post introducing uVme to my readers, dozens of you guys followed suit and signed on as well. uVme doesn’t launch until the 21st, but I do think the product that will be marketed will no doubt stand the test of time… online gaming.

The monthly cost of being an active member in uVme is also a very reasonable 10 bucks per month. And if you can refer just two people who remain active, you will start receiving a monthly check. The key to any network marketing company is getting in early, and now is definitely early.

How do you make money with uVme?

We have created a powerful, unique business with which you can earn money in several different ways. As you build your team of players, you can also create a team of Associates to boost your earnings even more. You can earn:

Game Revenue – each time a game is played, you get paid

Fast Start Bonus – for each personally sponsored Associate who becomes “active”

Instant Pay – you get paid instantly

Power Pool Revenue Share – 8% of company turnover shared out with you

100% Matching Bonus – gives you a matching income from every one of your personally sponsored “active” Associates

Group Generation Bonus – 3%-5% commission on seven “generations”, with dynamic compression

Infinity Bonus – up to 3% commission on even deeper levels

AND THERE ARE MORE!

If you have never been involved in a network marketing company, you know how frustrating it can be. Training your “Downline” while keeping yourself up to date, amidst other things. Well let me tell you that with this oportunity, it could never be easier. When you sign up, almost instantly you are also made part of an elite group of Marketing Specialists who help you from step one to become a huge success in your business. I’m a Network Marketing Consultant and a Web 2.0 Specialist. I am a member of the GUTz Community, which is a Network Marketing Community created with the network marketer in mind, and not the end profit.
